Things to know when driving your car rental
Traffic and parking
As in many other historic towns in Europe, while driving your car hire in Almería you should be aware that streets in the city centre tend to be narrow. There are also many one-way streets, making navigating the centre a bit more challenging. Parking space is very hard to find in the historic centre, as there are very few spaces available.
There are, however, many public and private car parks, where you can conveniently leave your car hire while exploring the city on foot. There are multiple car parks in the central area of the city, within short walking distance of the major historic sites. Alternatively, you can use the car park at the central train station, Estacion Intermodal. While parking your car rental in Almería, be mindful of the different parking zones: blue zones offer paid parking and are more centrally located, green zones are reserved for residents during certain times of day, and white parking zones offer free parking farther out of the city centre.
Almería is well connected to motorways, allowing you to make the most of your car rental with day trips or longer stays to nearby cities. You can, for example, reach Granada via the A-92 motorway, and Málaga and Murcia via the A-7. Granada is located 103 miles from Almería, and the drive takes little over an hour and a half. Málaga is a bit farther away: at 126 miles from Almería, the drive takes about two and a half hours, while the drive to Murcia, 136 miles away, takes about two hours.
