The Adriatic Sea offers many spectacular views as you drive the coast of Croatia. Some of the roads outside of cities such as Zagreb and Dubrovnik are worn and damaged and require your full attention. Make sure to keep an eye on your fuel levels as you drive in Croatia. Petrol stations can be few and far between in the countryside.

Car Rental Requirements

To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for one year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. Seatbelts are mandatory for all passengers.

Speed Limits

Speed limits in Croatia are as follows:

  • City: 37mph/60kph

  • Open Roads: 62mph/100 kph

  • Highways: 81mph/130kph

Rules of the Road

Traffic travels on the right and cars entering a roundabout have the right of way. School buses have the right of way when leaving a stop.

Fuel

Most gas stations are open from 6.00am to 8.00pm with some open 24 hours.

Tolls

There is a toll on the E59 and E70 highways that lead out of Zagreb.

Parking

There are many parking lots that are found in Zagreb and Dubrovnik. There are metered parking areas in many cities.
