The driving licence requirements in the Czech Republic state that you must be at least 18 years old to drive and have a full driving licence valid in your country of residence. If you do not have a photo driving licence, then you must have an international driver's licence.

To hire a car in the Czech Republic, you have to be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for one year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. In some cases, a maximum age of 70 exists.

  • Petrol stations in the Czech Republic open from 8am to 9pm, with some stations in major cities and on the motorway open 24 hours. Most petrol stations are located on the outskirts of the city. Prague has very few petrol stations, so it is best to fill up your vehicle when on the motorway outside of the city.  

Tolls in the Czech Republic

Cars are required to have a toll sticker to drive on the expressways. Buying a Czech Republic toll sticker is simple; you can find them at border crossings and petrol stations. Many car hires come with a toll sticker or an option to purchase one at the time of hire. This sticker is placed on the upper right hand corner of the windshield. Always check in regards to the toll sticker when collecting a car hire in Brno and other destinations.

Czech Republic Parking Information

In Prague, you can park your car hire at 'automats'. Automats, indicated by a green stripe, have a six-hour maximum and those with an orange stripe have a two-hour maximum. Parking is on the right side of the road, with the exception of one-way streets.

One-Way Car Hire in Czech Republic

Domestic one-way car hires are unrestricted and free of charge. There are fees for international one-way rentals, and not all vehicles are allowed. Always check your terms & conditions of the booking as some suppliers vary in options.
