Ireland Car Hire - Restrictions

General Information

Most car categories can be driven anywhere in Ireland and Northern Ireland without restriction. Due to insurance regulations, there are restrictions on luxury car categories and on travel in certain countries. Please take a minute to ensure that your intended itinerary will be possible with the car you plan to hire.

Restricted Countries

Cars hired in the Republic of Ireland can be taken to Northern Ireland free of charge as long as the renter does not hold a Northern Ireland drivers license. Cars hired in Ireland can travel to the United Kingdom for an additional fee, but cannot be taken to the European continent.

One-Way Rentals

Domestic one-way rentals are unrestricted and typically free of charge, exceptions do apply. The only international one-way rental available is to Belfast, Northern Ireland. Additional fees may apply and not all vehicles are available.

If you plan to drive with a Ireland car hire you can pick it up in one location and return it to another location but there are some restrictions that you need to check with your car hire supplier.
