Cheap Car Hire in Luxembourg - Driving Information

Setting the Scene

Luxembourg has an excellent network of highways and secondary roads that offer easy access to the neighbouring countries of Belgium, Germany and France. The roads pass through many rolling hills and can take you to one of the many castles in this small nation.

Car Rental Requirements

To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. Seatbelts are mandatory and children under 12 must have safety seats if in the front seat. Children up to age 4 must be in a child seat.

Speed Limits

Speed limits in Luxembourg are as follows:

  • City: 31mph/50kph

  • Open Roads: 56mph/90kph

  • Highways: 74mph/120kph

Rules of the Road

Traffic travels on the right and passing is only allowed on the left. Traffic on the right has the right of way. This is important because stop and yield signs are not as common as they are in the UK.

Fuel

Most petrol stations are open from 7.00am to 8.00pm.

Tolls

There are no toll highways in Luxembourg.

Parking

Most city parking requires paying at a meter as parking is scarce in Luxembourg city. 'Blue zone' parking requires you to obtain a parking disc from an auto club, tourist office or police station. Display this disc on the dash.

With your cheap car hire in Luxembourg it is important that you have looked through some of these rules and regulations about driving a car to ensure you have the safest possible journey.
