The driving licence requirements in Mexico state that you must have a full driving licence that is valid in your country of residence. An international driver?s licence is also recommended for a car hire in Cancun.
Although the legal driving age is 18, many car hire suppliers will only rent to people aged 25 or over and you must have held a driving licence for a minimum of 2 years.

In order to reduce air pollution, Mexico City and some other regions of the country have introduced restrictions on driving. Cars will be forbidden from certain areas on particular days based on number plates. Be sure to check this information before driving your car hire in Mexico City.
All Mexico petrol stations have attendants. They also often have a small convenience store and you will usually find someone who speaks English if you need help or directions.
Most of the major highways in Mexico are toll roads (or 'Cuotas'). Routes which have toll roads connecting destinations also tend to have a free alternative road which will be more winding and scenic (but much longer). While driving in Mexico, watch the signs and follow the route for the road type you want to use. Charges vary, depending on the route, and how long the stretch of road is to the next major town or turn off. Tolls in Mexico are best paid with cash - some booths are starting to accept credit and debit cards, but not all.
Parking in Mexico is fairly limited and can sometimes be haphazard. Try to stick to allocated parking spaces to avoid getting blocked in.
Domestic one-way car hire in Mexico is available on a request basis and require a three-day minimum rental length (fees will be determined at time of booking confirmation). International one-way rentals are not currently permitted with any supplier.
