Serbia Driving Licence Requirements

The driving licence requirements in Serbia state that you must have a full driving licence that is valid in your country of residence. An international driver's licence is also recommended when collecting a car hire in Belgrade and other cities in Serbia.

Serbia Age Restrictions

To hire a car in Serbia, the driver must be at least 21 years of age (age may vary by car category) with a full driving license, passport or ID card and a credit card with enough funds available.

Serbia Road Rules and Petrol Stations

  • Driving in Serbia is on the right hand side of the road.

  • Seat belts when driving a hire car in Serbia are mandatory.

  • The use of a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, with the exception of a hands-free system.

  • Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid driver?s licence, registration documents and insurance documents.

  • Dipped headlights or daytime runner lights to be used during daylight hours when driving a car hire in Kraljevo and other parts of Serbia.

  • Petrol stations in Serbia open from 7am to 8pm with some stations in major cities and on the highway open 24 hours. 

Tolls in Serbia

There are a number of toll booths along motorways. Serbia toll fees vary depending on the size of your vehicle. Foreign registered vehicles are charged a higher toll than those registered locally.

Road-tolls for cars with overseas registration plates, on the following motorway sections are:

  • Subotica - Novi Sad

  • Novi Sad - Belgrade

  • Sid - Belgrade  

  • Belgrade - Nis

  • I Nis - Pecenjevce

Serbia Parking Information

The diverse parking zones have different limit durations. Red zone = 1 hour, yellow zone = 2 hours and the green zone = 3 hours. It is important that you do not extend your limit or your car will be towed. The penalty for getting your car back will be a lot more expensive than the price of parking.

Serbia One-Way Car Hire

Both Domestic and International one way car hire is permitted, fees may apply depending on destination and supplier.  There is a three day minimum for all Serbia one ways.
